QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th May, 2026) With demand for ice lollies and kulfis surging in bazaars and neighborhoods ahead of Eid al-Azha, the Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has launched a special campaign to protect public health, particularly children, from unsafe and substandard products.
Large-scale operations were carried out in Quetta and other districts, leading to the sealing of several unregistered and unhygienic ice lolly units, destruction of thousands of substandard products, and fines and warnings issued to food business operators.
According to the BFA spokesperson, food safety teams uncovered units in Pashtunabad, Eastern Bypass, Kwari Road, Nawa Abadi, CPEC Road Quetta, and Loralai, where ice lollies were being prepared in highly unsafe conditions. Violations included the use of detergents, non-food grade colors, excessive preservatives, contaminated syrups, rusty utensils, poor storage, and unhygienic environments with flies present.

Director General BFA Habibullah Khan warned that profiteers were endangering children’s health for financial gain. “If kulfis and ice lollies are prepared with substandard ingredients in contaminated environments, they are nothing less than poison,” he said.
He appealed to parents to purchase only registered and branded products and avoid open or unlabeled ice lollies.
The DG confirmed that indiscriminate action against violators will continue during Eid, ensuring that public health remains protected.
