BCCI has introduced a sweeping crackdown on Indian Premier League (IPL) operations, issuing strict directives to all 10 franchises over repeated breaches of discipline

MUMBAI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-May 8th, 2026) The Board of Control for cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a sweeping crackdown on Indian Premier League (IPL) operations, issuing strict directives to all 10 franchises over repeated breaches of discipline, security protocols and team conduct.

In a detailed communication circulated by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, franchises have been warned about multiple off-field risks, including alleged “honey trap” attempts, unauthorised access to player spaces, and lapses in internal security management.

The board noted that some players and support staff had reportedly allowed individuals outside the official team setup into hotel rooms without proper authorisation from management. Calling it a serious violation, the BCCI has now completely barred any such access.

Under the revised rules, no outsider will be allowed into players’ or team staff rooms without written permission from authorised officials. All interactions with guests must now take place strictly in designated public areas such as hotel lobbies or approved meeting zones.

The BCCI further instructed franchises to remain alert to external threats, including potential attempts to exploit players or disrupt team environments through off-field influence. Teams have been advised to maintain strict vigilance and report any suspicious activity.

In another significant move, franchise owners and officials have been prohibited from engaging in informal interactions with players during matches, including entering dugouts or approaching them on the field. The board said such behaviour could disturb team focus and competitive discipline.

The directive also includes a complete ban on vaping, e-cigarettes and similar substances in team environments, following a recent incident involving improper use inside a dressing room.

The BCCI has made it clear that any violation of these instructions will lead to strict disciplinary action, reinforcing its push to ensure tighter security, professionalism and control across the IPL ecosystem.
