SYLHET: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-May 18th, 2026) Bangladesh maintained firm control over the second Test against Pakistan on the third day of play, building a commanding lead after another disciplined batting performance in their second innings.

At the close of the latest session, Bangladesh were 238 for 4 in their second innings, extending their overall lead to 284 runs and placing Pakistan under significant pressure in the ongoing match.

Resuming the day at 110 for 3, Bangladesh’s batting pair of captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim continued to guide the innings before Pakistan struck early on day three. Shanto was dismissed for 15 at a team score of 115, falling LBW to Khurram Shahzad.

Despite the early setback, Bangladesh continued to accumulate runs steadily to strengthen their position in the match.

On the second day, Bangladesh had reached 110 for 3 at stumps in their second innings. Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored 52, Mominul Haque made 30, while Tanzid Hasan was dismissed for 4. Shanto remained not out on 13 at the end of play. For Pakistan, Khurram Shahzad claimed two wickets and Mohammad Abbas took one.

Pakistan were earlier bowled out for 232 runs in their first innings. After beginning the second day at 21 without loss, they suffered early blows as Azaan Awais scored 13 and Abdullah Fazal made 9. Captain Shan Masood contributed 21, while Babar Azam top-scored with 68. Saud Shakeel added 8, Salman Ali Agha made 21, and Mohammad Rizwan scored 13. Lower-order contributions came from Hassan Ali (18), Sajid Khan (38), and Khurram Shahzad (10), while Mohammad Abbas was dismissed without scoring.

Bangladesh’s bowling attack was led by Nahid Rana and Taijul islam, who took three wickets each, while Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up two wickets apiece.

On the opening day, Bangladesh were bowled out for 278 in their first innings, with Litton Das playing a standout knock of 126. Pakistan’s Khurram Shahzad took four wickets, Mohammad Abbas claimed three, Hassan Ali two, and Sajid Khan one.

Pakistan had ended day one at 21 without loss after Bangladesh opted to bat first upon winning the toss.

Bangladesh now lead the two-match series 1-0 after securing a 104-run victory in the first Test.
