Chasing a daunting target of 437, Pakistan were bowled out for 358 despite a fighting effort on the final day
SYLHET: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-May 20th, 2026) Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 78 runs in the second Test at Sylhet International cricket Stadium on Wednesday, sealing the two-match series 2-0 with a dominant performance.
Chasing a daunting target of 437, Pakistan were bowled out for 358 despite a fighting effort on the final day. The visitors resumed play after a rain interruption and briefly showed resistance, but lost wickets at crucial stages to fall short of the target.
Mohammad Rizwan played a standout innings, scoring 94 off 166 balls with 10 boundaries, while skipper Shan Masood added a solid 71. Their efforts, however, were not enough to steer Pakistan toward an unlikely victory.
Bangladesh’s bowling attack proved decisive once again, with Taijul islam delivering a match-winning performance. He finished with six wickets in the innings, dismantling Pakistan’s middle and lower order and finishing the match in style by removing Khurram Shahzad for a duck.
Earlier in the chase, Pakistan’s top order struggled, losing both openers for just 41 runs. Babar Azam and Shan Masood then rebuilt the innings with a valuable partnership that took the team past 100. Babar contributed 47 before being dismissed, while Saud Shakeel managed only six runs.
A crucial phase followed as Rizwan and Salman Agha added a strong 134-run partnership, briefly reviving hopes for Pakistan.

The wicketkeeper-batter scored 126 runs, striking 16 fours and two sixes to anchor the innings. Khurram Shahzad led Pakistan’s bowling with four wickets, while Hasan Ali claimed three.
In response, Pakistan were bowled out for 232, conceding a 46-run first-innings deficit. Babar Azam top-scored with 68, while Sajid Khan added 38 lower down the order. Bangladesh’s attack was led by Taijul Islam and Nahid Rana, who took three wickets each.
In their second innings, Bangladesh set up the match with a strong batting display, posting a target of 437. Mushfiqur Rahim starred with a commanding 137, supported by useful contributions from Litton Das and Mahmudul Hasan Joy.
Pakistan’s bowlers again fought back, with Khurram Shahzad taking four wickets, while Sajid Khan claimed three. However, the total proved too steep as Bangladesh completed a dominant series win.
