Balochistan Ministers discuss irrigation, energy projects to boost agriculture

QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Apr, 2026) Balochistan’s Minister for Energy, Mir Asghar Rind, Minister for Fisheries, Barkat Rind, and former provincial minister Sikandar Umrani, held a meeting with Secretary Irrigation Sohail-ur-Rehman Baloch to review ongoing and proposed irrigation projects and strategies for agricultural development and efficient water use.

The Secretary briefed the delegation on current development schemes, particularly the construction of small and medium-sized dams, improvements to canal systems, and measures to enhance water storage capacity.

Minister for Energy Mir Asghar Rind highlighted that improving the energy sector remains a top priority for the provincial government. He pointed to ongoing initiatives in solar and wind power generation and efforts to expand electricity access in rural areas. He stressed that integrating energy and irrigation projects could further strengthen the agricultural sector.

Minister for Fisheries Barkat Rind emphasized that increasing water reservoirs is vital for the growth of fisheries. He noted that the construction of new dams would benefit both agriculture and fisheries, thereby boosting the local economy.

The meeting also agreed on the need to deploy modern technology to address water scarcity and ensure the timely completion of ongoing dam projects. Additionally, the participants discussed promoting alternative energy sources to provide affordable and sustainable electricity for agricultural tube wells.

The participants reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation and strengthening coordination among relevant departments, underscoring the government’s vision of integrated development for Balochistan’s agriculture, energy, and fisheries sectors.
