QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th May, 2026) Balochistan’s health sector witnessed a historic milestone on Friday as eleven major healthcare projects were inaugurated under the leadership of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and the vision of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Provincial Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar, while briefing participants at the ceremony in Quetta, described the initiatives as revolutionary steps that will transform the province’s healthcare system and bring quality medical facilities to people’s doorsteps.
The projects include a 150-bed modern trauma centre in Quetta, the Benazir Ambulance Service, Pakistan’s first Peoples Air Ambulance, Bacha Khan Memorial Hospital for women and children, rehabilitation of 164 Basic Health Units, a health insurance program for government employees, strengthening of routine immunization, expansion of ChildLife emergency services, establishment of a Health Information and Digitalization Unit, the Peoples Welfare Program, and specialized centres for the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Minister Bakht Kakar emphasized that Balochistan’s first air ambulance and paperless trauma centre are already operational, while efforts to strengthen Primary healthcare continue with the activation of 164 Basic Health Units and more under rehabilitation. He noted that digitalization is introducing transparency into the health system, with employee records and attendance monitored through artificial intelligence.
Highlighting recent progress, he revealed that routine immunization coverage in the province has increased by 12 percent, and no polio case has been reported in the last 18 months, which he described as a positive achievement. He added that cashless health insurance for government employees, expansion of child emergency centres, and hospital improvements through public-private partnerships are also underway.
Bakht Kakar concluded that these projects represent a turning point in Balochistan’s history, modernizing the healthcare system and ensuring that citizens across remote and underserved areas gain access to reliable and advanced medical services.
