ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-May 20th, 2026) A bad news for the electricity consumers across Pakistan, including Karachi, as an increase of Rs1.72 per unit in power tariffs is likely under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking approval for the increase for the month of April.
According to the request, the proposed hike has been sought in connection with fuel cost adjustments. NEPRA is scheduled to hear the petition on June 2 before issuing a final decision.

The adjustment is part of the regular monthly review of electricity generation costs and fuel prices conducted by the power regulator.
The increase in the electricity prices ahead of Eidul Azha will cause more inflation and will bring trouble to the citizens who are already grappling with the the sky-rocketing inflatino in Pakistan. The prices are very high.
