Awareness about disease prevention essential to protect human health

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th May, 2026) Public awareness regarding preventive measures against different diseases is the most effective weapon to protect human health.

Ameeruddin Medical College Principal Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal expressed these views while addressing an awareness lecture on “Pulmonary TB” organized by the Pediatrics Ward at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) on Saturday.

Prof. Farooq Afzal said that awareness lectures under the Health education Program would continue on a permanent basis to protect the public from diseases and to provide professional training to young doctors. He urged parents to ensure balanced nutrition, a clean environment and timely vaccination for children to protect them from infectious diseases such as tuberculosis.

During the lecture, prominent pediatrician Prof. Yaqoob Qazi highlighted the symptoms and modern treatment methods of pulmonary tuberculosis in children. He said persistent cough, continuous fever, weight loss, and loss of appetite should never be ignored, adding that timely diagnosis is the key to effective treatment.

Prof. Muhammad Shahid stated that such academic sessions serve as a valuable source of practical guidance for young clinicians in diagnosing and managing complex medical conditions.

Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent LGH Prof. Faryad Hussain emphasized the importance of vaccination, saying the national immunization program is the most effective tool for strengthening children’s immunity and preventing the spread of infectious diseases in society. He added that awareness, prevention, and timely medical treatment are essential for building a healthy society.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session during which Prof. Yaqoob Qazi responded to participants’ queries. At the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal presented a commemorative shield to Prof. Yaqoob Qazi in recognition of his outstanding medical services.

A large number of doctors and health professionals attended the event, including Vice Principal Prof. Nudrat Sohail, Prof. Hassan Suleman Malik, Dr. Hooria Rehman and Dr. Ayesha Iftikhar.
