Asim Munir, Erdogan discuss regional security and defence cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s top military leadership continued efforts to strengthen ties with Türkiye as Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, with both sides discussing regional security and future defence cooperation.

Field Marshal Munir’s visit to Türkiye is aimed at further deepening the long-standing partnership between the two countries, particularly in the defence and strategic sectors.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military chief held a series of high-level meetings with Turkish political and military leaders during his official visit.

Field Marshal Munir called on President Erdogan and Turkish Minister of National Defence Yasar Guler, where discussions focused on regional developments, security challenges and areas of mutual interest.

The ISPR said the talks reflected the shared desire of Pakistan and Türkiye to enhance their strategic partnership in an evolving regional environment.

During his visit to the Turkish General Staff headquarters, Field Marshal Munir received a guard of honour and met Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Selcuk Bayraktaroglu.

Rooted in brotherhood, mutual trust and a shared strategic vision, the enduring defence and military cooperation between Türkiye and Pakistan continues to grow stronger.

The two military commanders exchanged views on regional security matters and professional cooperation between the armed forces of both countries.

General Bayraktaroglu also conferred the Turkish Armed Forces Distinguished Service Medal upon Field Marshal Munir in recognition of his efforts to strengthen military cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye.

Field Marshal Munir later visited the Turkish Land Forces headquarters, where he was received by Turkish Land Forces Commander General Metin Tokel.

He also visited Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, and laid a floral wreath to pay tribute to the founder of modern Türkiye.

Pakistan and Türkiye share decades-old relations built on strong defence, political and economic cooperation. Both countries have continued to expand collaboration in areas including military technology, naval projects and regional security.

The visit highlights the commitment of Islamabad and Ankara to further strengthen their strategic partnership and work together for regional peace and stability.
