LODHRAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd May, 2026) The district administration is going to launch mega cleanliness and sanitation plan for Eid-ul-Azha under the “Suthra Punjab” initiative, from 419,000 households of the district,
nearly 60 percent would be supplied with plastic bags for proper disposal of sacrificial waste.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner, Muhammad Ashraf, said a mega cleanliness operation was being launched across the district on the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to provide citizens with exemplary sanitation facilities during Eid days.
He said administrative officers, the Suthra Punjab Agency and company contractors would remain fully mobilized to achieve a “zero-waste” target throughout the operation.
The deputy commissioner said that, in addition to permanent waste collection centres, more than 30 percent extra temporary collection points would also be established across the district to facilitate citizens. He added that sanitation arrangements would remain the administration’s top priority before Eid, during the three Eid days and after the festival.
Muhammad Ashraf said additional machinery and sanitation workers would be deployed in all urban and rural areas, while special “Suthra Punjab” camps would be set up in every union council to assist residents. He added that rose water, phenyl and lime powder would be used at Eid congregations and major roads.
Highlighting preventive measures, the deputy commissioner announced a complete ban on burning animal remains, throwing waste in open places, bathing in canals and installation of swings during Eid holidays.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He warned that anyone found dumping sacrificial offal at prohibited places would face a fine of Rs50,000.
He further said vigilance squads would remain active across the district to monitor sanitation arrangements and prevent violations, while all collection centres and dumping sites would remain fully functional throughout Eid.
The deputy commissioner stated that the “Suthra Punjab” helpline 1139, along with district and tehsil control rooms, would operate round the clock to promptly address public complaints regarding cleanliness and waste disposal.
He said WASA authorities had also been directed to ensure cleaning of drains, operational readiness of de-watering machines and uninterrupted drainage arrangements during Eid days.
Muhammad Ashraf urged journalists and media representatives to support the district administration in creating public awareness regarding the cleanliness campaign and encouraging citizens to cooperate with sanitation staff.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner General and MD Suthra Punjab, Liaqat Ali Gilani, urged the citizens to actively participate in the government’s cleanliness drive. He said sanitary workers would collect sacrificial waste within 10 to 15 minutes after receiving complaints or information from residents.
Assistant Commissioner Farukh Ullah Khan, CEO Municipal Committee Umar Mukhtar and District Manager Waste Management Company Zahra Naseem were also present.
