The 20th anniversary of the iPhone in 2027 is shaping up to be the biggest shift in smartphone history since the original launch. While we await the iPhone 18 series, insiders have already turned their gaze toward the future of the iPhone 20.

Reliable tipster Ice Universe suggests a radical “Liquid Glass Display” is in the works, moving away from flat screens toward a quad-curved aesthetic. Unlike the aggressive curves of the past, this design uses subtle arcs on all four sides to make bezels virtually disappear.

The Borderless Illusion

Apple plans to use optical refraction and light diffusion to hide the screen’s edges. This creates a seamless, borderless visual effect without the typical edge distortion found on other devices.

Efficiency Meets Elegance

Behind the glass, Apple is reportedly tapping Samsung for custom OLED panels featuring COE (Color-on-Encapsulation) technology. By removing the traditional polarizer, this new hardware targets:

  • 33% increase in light transmission.
  • 25% reduction in power consumption.
  • A significantly thinner and more flexible build.

The ultimate goal remains a “single slab of glass” without a notch or cutout. However, technical hurdles with under-display Face ID and camera quality persist. While Apple engineers push for a hidden sensor array, the iPhone 20 might initially debut with a refined Dynamic Island if the tech isn’t perfect by 2027.
