ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th May, 2026) A condolence and prayer meeting was held at the office of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) here on Monday to pay tribute to former Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir chief and senior Kashmiri religious leader Sheikh Ghulam Hassan.
The gathering highlighted his role in religious education, social work and the Kashmir freedom movement.
The meeting was chaired by APHC Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, who said Sheikh Ghulam Hassan devoted his life to islam, moral values, public awareness and the cause of Kashmir. He said the late leader continued to raise his voice for the people of Kashmir despite political pressure and difficult conditions.
Speaking at the event, Ghulam Muhammad Safi described Sheikh Ghulam Hassan as a man known for wisdom, simplicity and commitment to public service. He said the late leader played an important role in guiding young people towards religious and moral values.
He further said Sheikh Ghulam Hassan believed in freedom and opposed all forms of oppression.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Safi said that because of these beliefs, he later preferred writing his name as “Muhammad Hassan” instead of “Ghulam Hassan”.
The APHC convener said the death of Sheikh Ghulam Hassan was a major loss for the people of Kashmir and the freedom movement. He added that his absence would be felt for a long time due to his influence and leadership.
During the meeting, speakers also mentioned the sacrifice of Sheikh Ghulam Hassan’s son, who lost his life during the Kashmir freedom movement.
Several political and social figures attended the gathering, including Mahmood Ahmad Saghar, Parvez Ahmad, Shamim Shawl, Dawood Khan, Syed Ejaz Rehmani, Mushtaq Ahmad Butt and others.
At the end of the meeting, special prayers were offered for Sheikh Ghulam Hassan, for the elevation of his status in the hereafter and for those who lost their lives in the Kashmir freedom movement.
