KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Jul, 2026) A meeting chaired by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi on Friday reviewed arrangements for the upcoming anti-polio campaign, scheduled to run from July 6 to 12 across the city.

Deputy Commissioners and the Coordinator of the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre, Shahryar Memon, made a detailed briefing to the Commissioner. It was informed to the commissioner that the anti-polio drive in Karachi would run from July 6 to July 12. It was also informed that the all the district administrations and the Emergency Operations Centre had finalized arrangements for its implementation.

The meeting was further apprised that polio drops would be administered to 2.5 million children up to the age of five, with a total of 26,000 polio workers deployed for the task. According to the briefing Seven thousand security personnel will be deployed for security purposes.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners (via video link), officials from the National Emergency Operations Center and the Provincial Emergency Operations Center, Assistant Commissioner (Headquarters) Iqra Jannat, Senior Field Support Officer Dr.

During the meeting, briefings made by the National Emergency Operations Center and the Provincial Emergency Operations Center (Sindh) indicated that, according to a report by the Federal Ministry of Health, the majority of environmental samples collected across the country—and particularly in Sindh—have tested negative, and the circulation of the polio virus continues to be restricted.

The Commissioner said that the door-to-door campaign in Karachi is being enhanced through the collaboration of the Health Department and international organizations. He noted that the data collection system has been improved, with a specific focus on the methodology used.

He further said that the support of schools and hospitals has been instrumental in achieving vaccination targets and lauded the efforts undertaken under the supervision of the Karachi administration to eliminate the polio virus.
