Amid early morning showers, Karachi celebrates Eid-ul-Fitr with devotion, religious zeal

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Mar, 2026) Likewise the nook and corner of the country, the Eid-ul-Fitr was observed in Karachi with religious zeal and devotion amid strict security arrangements and early morning showers affecting open prayer congregations in different parts of the metropolis.

The Eid day dawned with scattered showers with wind and thunderstorm in different districts of Karachi, 11 mm measured by the met office, making open space mass prayer congregation arrangements difficult and restricting access of public as clouds covered parts of the city and intermittent showers continued.

The Eid-ul-Fitr prayers were offered in all the big and small Masajid, Imam bargahs, Madarsas and Eidgahs across the metropolis and special prayers were made for the country’s solidarity, prosperity and progress, as well as for the unity of the Muslim Ummah for the country’s solidarity, prosperity and progress, as well as for the unity of the Muslim Ummah.

The Governor Sindh Muhammad Nehal Hashmi, offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the Governor House mosque, accompanied with senior government officials, diplomats of different brotherly countries, and social and political figures of the metropolis.

The Governor Nehal Hashmi, while talking to media after the Eid prayers, extended heartfelt greetings to the nation and the entire Muslim Ummah, saying that the holy month of Ramazan and Eid-ul-Fitr teaches us patience, tolerance, sacrifice and brotherhood.

Governor Sindh paid a glowing tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan's armed forces and security agencies and appealed to the nation for special prayers for the security, progress and prosperity of Pakistan.

Consul Generals of various countries, Chief Secretary and IGP Sindh, elected representatives, business personalities and dignitaries of the city visited the Governor House, reflecting a shining image of global harmony and international goodwill.

The Consuls General of Malaysia, UAE, Oman, Germany, Bahrain, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, France and China, Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh and Honorary Consuls General of Ethiopia, Yemen and Morocco visited the Governor House to share the festive occasion and exchange the Eid greetings.

On the other hand, citizens, taking advantage of weather that turned pleasant following the showers and winds, visited relatives and friends to exchange Eid greetings, sweets and other gifts while some others celebrated the occasion at their homes. A large number of people, especially the children, headed to the parks, play areas and recreational spots including sea shores.

The Sindh Police implemented a comprehensive security plan to ensure foolproof arrangements across the metropolis during Eid-ul-Fitr, and according to a spokesperson for Karachi Police, a total of 12,145 police officers and personnel had been deployed under the plan.

Additional personnel were deployed at all major Eidgahs, large Masajid and Imam Bargahs, with enhanced surveillance through mobile patrolling, snap checking and street deployment and strict monitoring and checking at entry and exit points, he added. A comprehensive and coordinated traffic management plan has also been enforced to maintain smooth flow of traffic and facilitate citizens during Eid prayers.

Though ruined by the rain, the Sindh Solid Waste Management board has made arrangements for cleanliness in connection with Eid-ul-Fitr, in addition to which a rain emergency had also been imposed to ensure cleanliness around Eid Gahs, Masajid, Imambargahs, other prayer congregation places as well as cemeteries, parks and food streets.

Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Saddar, II Chundrigar Road, Clifton, Federal B Area, Gulshan e Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Malir Halt, Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Tariq Road, Lasbela, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Scheme 33, Liaquatabad, PIB Colony and other areas reported downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning at intervals, with some places experiencing heavier spells while some neighborhoods experienced lighter drizzle.
