AJK to observe World Civil Defense Day on March 1st with renewed pledge, determination

MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Feb, 2026) Like the rest of the world, adequate arrangements are being made to observe World Civil Defense Day in Azad Jammu Kashmir on March 1st with the renewal of the pledge to frustrate every threat of the enemy to the frontiers of the motherland shoulder to shoulder with the valiant armed forces of Pakistan, besides in case of every other emergent situation both in peace and war times, as and when required.

The International civil defense day is observed the world over on 1st of March every year in line with the charter of the United Nations aimed at to raise awareness among the masses to deal with any eventuality in case of any emergent situation, organizers said.

Elaborate programs have been chalked out to hold special ceremonies in all ten districts of AJK, including the capital city of Muzaffarabad as well as Mirpur, Kotli, Bhimbher, Rawalakot, and other small and major towns under the auspices of the AJK Civil Defense Department to observe the day, Civil Defense Department sources told this APP correspondent here on Tuesday.

In Mirpur, major ceremony to observe the day will be followed by a major rally to mark the day to be held under the auspices of the local Civil Defense Department. People from all walks of life including the civil defense volunteers will march through the main city streets in a mammoth rally, which be the hall mark of the day.

Besides the civil defense volunteers, the volunteers of the upcoming 1122 rescue service, workers of PWD, highways, electricity, information, health, and education departments, as well as the school’s students, will present practical demonstrations of civil defense on this occasion.

The commemoration of the International Civil Defense Day on March 1st every year renews the entry into force of the ICDI—International Civil Defense Organization’s constitution as an intergovernmental organization in 1972 with two major objectives of serving for the safety and security of the masses both in peace and wartime in case of any eventuality—besides other nation-building institutions.
