Special athletes from the Kashmir Institute of Special Education (KISE), Mirpur, have brought laurels to Azad Jammu and Kashmir by securing three silver medals at the National Special Olympics 2026 held in Islamabad

MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th May, 2026) Special athletes from the Kashmir Institute of Special education (KISE), Mirpur, have brought laurels to Azad Jammu and Kashmir by securing three silver medals at the National Special Olympics 2026 held in Islamabad.

According to KISE Director Dr. Amjad Ansari, the three-member squad participated in the three-day national event organized by Special Olympics Pakistan at the Sports Complex Islamabad from May 14 to 16, where athletes from across the country competed in various disciplines.

He said Muhammad Shiraz won silver medals in the long jump and 400-meter race, while Faizan Shahzad secured silver in the 200-meter race. Another athlete, Mubeen, participated in the relay event, contributing to the team’s overall success.

The closing ceremony was held at Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad, where Special Olympics Pakistan CEO Ronak Lakhani and officials of the Pakistan Sports board distributed medals among the winners. The AJK athletes were given a warm welcome upon their return to Mirpur, where citizens, parents, teachers, and civil society members greeted them with flowers at the Mangla Bridge gateway.

Dr. Amjad Ansari said a special ceremony would soon be organized in honour of the athletes to celebrate their achievement and encourage further participation of special children in sports activities.
