AJK PM unveils locally organised cricket tournament trophy

MUZAFFARABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th May, 2026) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, officially unveiled the trophy for the “PM Gold Cup” cricket tournament at a ceremony held here on Friday at the Prime Minister’s House.

Addressing the ceremony, he appreciated organizers for hosting the tournament and termed it an excellent sporting initiative aimed at engaging youth in healthy activities and providing them an opportunity to showcase their talent.

He said teams from all ten districts of Azad Kashmir would be seen in action in Muzaffarabad and urged the public to actively participate in the event to encourage young players.

The prime minister said that the promotion of sports and cultural activities helps to bring positive change in society and channelize the energies of youth in the right direction.

Referring to the growing enthusiasm for sports among young people, he said the large crowds witnessed even at low-profile matches reflected the immense passion for games across the region.

The ceremony was attended by government ministers including Sardar Javed Ayub and Syed Bazal Ali Naqvi; former minister Salim Butt; government secretaries Sardar Zafar, Chaudhry Tayyab, Irshad Qureshi, Ansar Yaqoob, and Chaudhry Raqeeb; Sector Commander SCO; and organizers of the PM Gold Cup.

It is worth mentioning here that the tournament, featuring cricket teams from all across Azad Kashmir, will begin on May 15.
