AJK PM emphasizes stable governance for sustainable development

MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2026) Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has said that sustainable development in the region depends on a strong, transparent, and stable governance system.

Addressing an oath-taking ceremony of newly elected office-bearers of the Tehsil Bar Association, Khoi Ratta in Kotli district on Saturday, the prime minister said the current government has restored public trust in state institutions and ended political stagnation through inclusive and reform-oriented policies. He added that noticeable progress has been achieved across multiple sectors over the past five months.

Highlighting key initiatives, the prime minister termed the education package a “revolutionary step” and announced that an upcoming entrepreneurship conference would help tackle unemployment by encouraging educated youth to explore opportunities in the private sector. He also stressed the importance of tourism, agriculture, and alternative income sources for strengthening the region’s economy.

Reiterating the government’s focus on public welfare, he said an Overseas Commission has been established to promote investment and address issues faced by overseas Kashmiris. Appreciating the legal fraternity, he described lawyers as providing intellectual leadership to society. On the occasion, he announced a Rs1 million grant for the Bar Council and Lawyers’ Welfare Foundation, approval of a cricket ground project, and staffing arrangements for the Additional District Court.

The prime minister also reaffirmed support for the Kashmir cause, urging the international community to help resolve the longstanding dispute in line with UN resolutions, while condemning ongoing human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, he administered oath to the newly elected bar office-bearers and later inaugurated the Makrali Dhosi Bridge in Kotli constituency.
