MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2026) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) observed Youm-e-Ashura, the 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram, on Friday with deep religious devotion and solemnity, as thousands of mourners participated in processions and religious gatherings to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.
According to APP correspondents, Tazia, Alam, and Zuljinah processions were taken out from central Imambargahs in Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Kotli, Bagh, Bhimber, Jhelum Valley, Neelum Valley and other towns across the state. The processions passed peacefully through their traditional routes before concluding at designated Imambargahs amid comprehensive security arrangements and strict administrative oversight.
Authorities reported no untoward incident anywhere in the state during the Ashura observances, attributing the peaceful atmosphere to effective security measures, inter-agency coordination, and strong sectarian harmony.

Religious scholars, Zakirs, Khateebs, and Naat Khawans highlighted the enduring message of Karbala, emphasizing the values of sacrifice, truth, justice, patience, and steadfastness. Majlis-e-Sham-e-Ghariban was also held across the state to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala, while scholars urged the Muslim Ummah to strengthen unity, uphold Islamic values, and draw inspiration from the unwavering stand of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) against oppression and injustice.
