MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) Chief Justice of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court Justice Sardar Liaqat Hussain and Senior Judge Justice Syed Shahid Bahar on Wednesday visited the Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust (KORT) in Mirpur, widely regarded as one of South Asia’s largest orphan rehabilitation and educational complexes, and lauded its welfare services for vulnerable children.
During the visit, both judges highly commended the institution’s role in providing care, education, and rehabilitation to more than 500 orphaned and shelterless children under the supervision of its founding chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Akhtar. The Chief Justice termed KORT a “remarkable model” not only for Azad Jammu and Kashmir but also for Pakistan and the broader South Asian region, noting that its structured system of upbringing and education was rarely seen elsewhere.
Justice Sardar Liaqat Hussain observed that the institution ensures quality educational and developmental opportunities for its residents, helping them grow without any sense of deprivation or inferiority. He also suggested expanding KORT’s services to other districts of AJK so that more deserving children could benefit from similar welfare and rehabilitation support through philanthropic contributions.
Senior Judge Justice Syed Shahid Bahar described the visit as a highly impressive experience, stating that KORT stands among the leading welfare organizations in the region dedicated to supporting vulnerable segments of society. He noted that such an institution is unique in its scope and impact within Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
