MIRPUR (AJK) , (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news - 2nd Jul, 2026) The Election Commission (EC), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has said it had received 28 appeals against the rejection of nomination papers for the July 27 general elections, approving 10, rejecting 16 and dismissing two for non-prosecution.
In a statement issued here, the commission said the successful appeals included Muhammad Khalid Awan, Hasnat Abbasi, Sajjad Abbasi, Zahid Yaseen, Noman Arif, Usman Kashir, Shamshir-ul-Haq, Zain-ul-Abideen, Chaudhry Latif Akbar and Syed Adnan Ali Shah after challenges to decisions by returning officers in various Constituencies.
The commission rejected 16 appeals, including filed by Ghulam Rabbani, Muhammad Shahzad, Tanveer Hussain Khan, Abdul Rasheed Mirza, Aman Idrees, Atif Hussain, Anwar-ul-Haq, Zubair Ahmad, Zafar Iqbal, Zahoor Ahmad, Muhammad Bashir, Muhammad Faisal, Muhammad Saud Mukhtar, Tahir Khokhar and two separate appeals by Sajid Butt.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Two appeals lodged by Tahir Khokhar relating to the Jammu-VI constituency were dismissed because the appellant failed to pursue the cases, the statement said.
The election commission said all decisions were made after hearing the parties concerned and examining the relevant records in accordance with the law.
General elections for the 53-member AJK Legislative Assembly are scheduled to be held on July 27.
