FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Mar, 2026) Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has urged agricultural scientists to come up with tangible steps in order to uplift the agriculture sector, increase per acre productivity and alleviate the poverty from the country.
This was informed by Prof Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Vice Chancellor (VC) University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) during a statement here on Thursday after attending a meeting at Punjab House Islamabad.
He said that governor Punjab also highlighted the government’s commitment for strengthen agriculture sector which is backbone of the national economy and said we have to take concrete measures on scientific bases for becoming self-sufficient in the sector.
The governor also urged all agricultural universities to pace up efforts to address challenges in arid lands for better crop in addition to lauding the valuable services of UAF in the development of agriculture and hoped that it would continue to play its role in the coming years too.
Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali said that the UAF had introduced new germplasm for heat-tolerant wheat, durum-wheat, soybeans, brassica, okra, maize, industrial hemp, chickpea, quinoa, sorghum, mango, citrus, cotton and others.
He said along with agro-zoning of the entire province, the university has also recently launched the Kisan-360 App to provide guidance to farmers.
The university has taken initiative to maximize the production of seed and market it under academic-industry linkages and established seed processing plant, he added.
