ADC terms plastic bags cause major environmental pollution

CHICHAWATNI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Apr, 2026) Additional Commissioner Coordination (ADC) Sahiwal, Dr. Saifullah Bhatti on Monday said that plastic bags were a major cause of environmental pollution and other serious issues, and strict implementation of government's directives was underway to curb their use.

Addressing a press conference at Sadr Bazaar Parking regarding the ban on plastic bags, he stated that plastic bags with a thickness of less than 75 microns were completely prohibited, and action was being taken against the violators. Deputy Director Environment, Aroosha Maqbool and Assistant Director Ahmed Hassan were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Bhatti urged the trader to cooperate with the district administration to control environmental pollution, adding that along with awareness, practical measures were also being implemented.

He pointed out that a crackdown against the sale and use of illegal polythene bags was ongoing .

He appealed to citizens and traders to stop using illegal plastic bags and play their role in keeping the environment clean. Following the press conference, he visited the market, met with the shopkeepers, and urged them to avoid using plastic bags and ensure compliance with government directives.
