ADC review farmers market, consider expanding event to 2 days

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th May, 2026) Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Headquarters, Uzair Ali Khan, accompanied by Assistant Commissioner City, reviewed security, management and public facilities during a visit to the Islamabad Farmers Market, where discussions also focused on a proposal to expand the market from a 1-day event to 2 days.

Officials said the market is helping promote local businesses and providing citizens with access to local products.

During the visit, both officials held meetings with representatives of the Islamabad Wildlife Management board (IWMB) and the market administration.

During the visit, officials carried out a detailed review of security arrangements, administrative matters and facilities available for visitors. A briefing was also given on the coordination and joint work between the IWMB and the Farmers Market management.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters stressed the need to ensure the supply of quality and locally produced items for residents of the Federal capital. Officials said the market should continue supporting small businesses, home-based vendors and local entrepreneurs by creating more opportunities for them to reach customers directly.

The meeting also included discussions on improving the revenue generation mechanism of the IWMB through better management and coordination with the Farmers Market.

Officials exchanged views on ways to increase visitor participation and strengthen the operational structure of the event.

One of the main proposals discussed during the meeting was to expand the Farmers Market from a weekly 1-day activity to a 2-day event. Officials said the proposal is under consideration and could help attract more visitors while giving vendors additional business opportunities.

The ADC and Assistant Commissioner directed the concerned authorities to ensure proper arrangements for citizens, including parking, cleanliness, security and visitor convenience. They also instructed officials to maintain smooth coordination between departments to avoid management issues during future events.

Speaking during the visit, Uzair Ali Khan said the Farmers Market has become an important source of healthy recreational activity for citizens and is also playing a role in promoting local trade and small businesses in Islamabad.

Officials added that such initiatives can help strengthen links between consumers and local producers while also encouraging community participation in business and public activities.
