LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2026) The Punjab Health Department has taken disciplinary action against officials involved in a surgery case reportedly conducted without HIV screening at Nishtar Hospital Multan.

According to an official notification issued on Friday, Senior Registrar Surgery Dr. Faria Ahmed and Charge Nurse Rida Zahra have been suspended. Medical Officers Dr. Shahbaz Anwar, Dr. Muhammad Ali Jan, and Dr. Muhammad Naeem Akhtar have also been suspended with immediate effect over allegations of incompetence and mismanagement.

Sania Saeed (FCPS Chemical Pathology), Dr. Irsa Arif (MS General Surgery), and Dr. Muhammad Naeem Akhtar (FCPS Orthopaedic Surgery) has also been suspended.

The action has been taken under Section 6 of the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act 2006 (PEEDA Act 2006). All suspended employees have been directed to report immediately to the Specialized Healthcare and Medical education Department.

Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said that any negligence in patient care in hospitals is unacceptable, adding that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
