MIRPUR (AJK) , (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news - 23rd Apr, 2026) Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF-Y) acting Chairman, Raja Muzaffar on Thursday expressed concern over ongoing court proceedings against the group’s jailed chairman Yasin Malik, who is imprisoned in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
In a statement issued from Dallas and received here, Muzaffar said the case had raised concerns among Kashmiri communities and human rights observers, particularly after India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) sought the death penalty for Malik.
He described the investigation as “one-sided” and “politically motivated,” alleging that legal processes were being used to target a political figure.
He also said Malik had not been provided a copy of the agency’s counter-affidavit before the hearing, calling it a violation of the right to a fair trial.
He further said the agency’s stance overlooked Malik’s past political engagements, including meetings with former Indian prime ministers and international representatives.
During the latest hearing, the Delhi High Court noted that Malik had not received the counter-affidavit and adjourned the proceedings. The next hearing is scheduled for July 21.
Muzaffar said the developments had raised concerns about transparency and due process, adding that the case continued to draw attention from civil society groups and international observers.
