HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) Abid Lashari, President of the National Disability & Development Forum (NDF) Pakistan and Focal Person on human rights of persons with disabilities, Sindh emphasized that disability inclusion goes far beyond installing ramps in buildings.
Speaking during an interaction in Hyderabad, he stated that true inclusion requires equal access to education, employment, healthcare, information, and decision-making processes for persons with disabilities.
Lashari said that while physical accessibility such as ramps and lifts is important, genuine inclusion means creating systems and policies that ensure persons with disabilities can participate fully and independently in society. “Inclusion is about dignity, rights, and opportunities. It is about ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left behind in development,” he remarked.
He highlighted that millions of persons with disabilities in Pakistan still face barriers in accessing basic services, including education, rehabilitation, transportation, and employment opportunities.
He stressed the need for stronger implementation of disability-related laws and policies, as well as meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in policymaking.
Lashari also shared the ongoing efforts of NDF Pakistan, which operates rehabilitation centers with collaboration of DEPD department Government of Sindh and advocates for inclusive development, climate resilience, and the rights of persons with disabilities across Sindh. The organization continues to work with government institutions, civil society, and international partners to promote inclusive policies and services.
He urged government departments, private sector institutions, and development organizations to adopt a rights-based and inclusive approach in planning and implementing programs so that persons with disabilities can fully contribute to social and economic development.
“Inclusion is not charity; it is a matter of human rights and equal opportunity,” Lashari concluded.
