99% of crimes linked to motorcycles without number plates: SP

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Feb, 2026) SP Faqirabad, Resham Jahan on Tuesday said that nearly 99% of crimes in the provincial capital are being committed using motorcycles without number plates or proper registration.

He said the increasing rate of street crimes is largely connected to unregistered and unidentified motorcycles. She stated that in 99% of snatching and street crime incidents, criminals used motorcycles that either had no registration or were without number plates, making it extremely difficult for law enforcement agencies to trace the accused.

SP Resham Jahan further said that a crackdown has been intensified against such motorcycles.

Law violators are being arrested and shifted to police stations, where their motorcycles undergo proper verification and inspection.

Police sources added that several active criminal gangs have been exposed after authorities confiscated motorcycles without number plates. Officials believe that strict action against unregistered bikes will restrict the movement of criminal elements and significantly reduce crime in the city. The police have reiterated that no one will be allowed to ride an unregistered motorcycle within the city.
