92 bridges, 62 tunnels prepared for Hajj pilgrims in Makkah

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th May, 2026) Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has completed major infrastructure preparations in Makkah and the holy sites ahead of the Hajj 1447 AH season to improve safety and facilitate smoother movement for pilgrims.

According to SPA, the ministry intensified field operations covering bridges, tunnels, roads and lighting systems along key pilgrim routes in and around the holy sites.

The ministry said the works included improving the efficiency of 92 bridge intersections and preparing 62 pedestrian and vehicle tunnels to support safer and more organized movement during the Hajj season.

Road marking works stretching over 110,000 linear meters have also been completed to improve traffic guidance and operational efficiency for pilgrims and transport services.

The report said more than 330,000 lighting units and 150,000 lighting poles are currently operational across Makkah and the holy sites, supported by round-the-clock maintenance teams to ensure uninterrupted services throughout the Hajj season.

Authorities further stated that over 4,500 male and female volunteers have been prepared through the municipal volunteering system to assist pilgrims at vital locations, entry points and roads leading to the holy sites.

The ministry said the integrated preparations form part of ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure efficiency and improve services for pilgrims during Hajj 1447 AH.
