LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2026) The Lahore administration has intensified its crackdown against illegal plastic bags under the Environmental Protection Single-Use Plastic Rules 2023, seizing 751 kilograms of banned bags and imposing fines on violators during inspections across the city on Wednesday.

According to details, joint teams led by Assistant Commissioners, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency and enforcement staff, conducted inspections at 55 locations and markets across all four tehsils of Lahore.

During the move,authorities confiscated a large quantity of plastic bags and imposed fines amounting to Rs.25,000 on those found violating the law.

Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan said the crackdown against plastic bags thinner than 75 microns would continue without interruption, adding that enforcement operations had formally begun across all tehsils.

She warned that, in addition to fines and seizures, authorities would also seal premises of repeat offenders.

She said that illegal plastic bags are a major source of environmental pollution and contribute to multiple ecological challenges.

The commissioner reiterated that strict directives had been issued to the district administration, with Assistant Commissioners leading the operations, supported by the Environmental Protection Agency and enforcement teams.

Commissioner Marryam Khan further said that the crackdown would be carried out on a daily basis, with strict monitoring to ensure effective implementation of environmental regulations and sustained action against violators.
