7 shops sealed, 4 held over profiteering, overcharging

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th May, 2026) The district administration sealed seven shops and arrested four individuals during an intensified price control campaign carried out across the city under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ijaz.

Price control magistrates conducted inspections at 2,973 locations in various markets of the provincial capital and detected 52 violations related to profiteering and overcharging. The administration took strict action against repeated violations, sealing seven shops and arresting four persons involved in selling essential commodities above official rates.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz said that prices of essential commodities and the overall supply and demand situation in markets were being closely monitored to ensure stability and protect consumers from artificial inflation.

He said that 54 trucks of potatoes, 50 trucks of onions and 22 trucks of tomatoes had reached city markets, ensuring adequate supply and helping stabilize prices.

The DC directed officials to strictly prevent artificial price hikes and take immediate action against profiteers and hoarders. He also instructed price control magistrates to ensure availability of essential commodities at officially notified prices and improve supply chain management to maintain price balance in markets.

DC Ali Ijaz emphasized that protection of public rights was the district administration’s foremost priority and warned that profiteers deserved no leniency.
