52 maize seed bags seized in crackdown on hoarding, overpricing

FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Feb, 2026) The Agriculture Department (Extension) launched a crackdown on hoarding and overcharging in the sale of maize seed across the division.

According to official sources on Wednesday, seed inspectors carried out raids on retail outlets and seed dealers in all four districts of the division. During the operation, 52 bags of maize seed worth Rs538,200 were seized after being found hoarded for profiteering.

The enforcement teams also sealed two retail shops and arrested two dealers.

Additionally, seven challans were submitted to the court against the accused for further legal proceedings.

Officials stated that the Agriculture Department remains committed to safeguarding farmers’ interests and ensuring the availability of agricultural inputs at government-notified prices.

Sources further emphasized that indiscriminate action against hoarders and profiteers will continue in the future to protect the farming community from exploitation.
