352 held as Police continue Ramazan anti-begging campaign in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Feb, 2026) Acting on the directives of CPO Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani, Rawalpindi Police have arrested 352 professional beggars during a 38-day crackdown across the city, a police spokesman said.

Among those taken into custody are 144 men, 191 women and 17 transgender individuals.

Police said special squads have been formed to intensify action against professional beggars, with strict monitoring on busy roads and highways to curb the practice.

The spokesman stated that professional beggars often create traffic obstructions on major roads and cause inconvenience to citizens. He added that many of them are also found involved in theft, drug peddling and other criminal activities.

He said the crackdown would continue across the city in line with the vision of the Punjab Chief Minister to eliminate professional begging and ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety.
