27 illegal electricity connections removed as Pesco cracks down on power theft

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2026) The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) intensified its crackdown against electricity theft and illegal connections in Dera Ismail Khan, disconnecting 27 illegal direct connections (hooks) during an operation conducted in various areas of the Bhatta Chowk and CRBC feeder.

Following the special directives of Superintending Engineer PESCO Dera Circle Engineer Hizbullah Khan Mehsud, The PESCO Mandhran Sub-Division team led by SDO Engineer Irfanullah Khan launched the successful anti-power theft campaign in different localities.

During the operation, the PESCO team removed illegal electricity connections being used through direct hooks. Besides, the letters have also been sent to the relevant police stations for legal action against individuals involved in electricity theft.

Speaking to the media, SDO Engineer Irfanullah Khan said electricity theft was causing serious damage to the national economy and that indiscriminate action against the “Kunda mafia” would be continued without discrimination.

He said that the power thieves deserve no leniency and strict action was being taken against illegal connections as well as defaulters to ensure uninterrupted and improved electricity supply to consumers.

He also appealed to the public to cooperate with PESCO teams and help identify electricity theft as a national responsibility.
