250 graduates receive degrees at Sargodha Medical College convocation

SARGODHA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Jun, 2026) The second convocation of Sargodha Medical College (SMC) was held on Monday,with 250 graduates receiving medical degrees and dozens of students being honoured for outstanding academic performance.

Advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister on Health Major General (retd),Prof.Dr.Azhar Mahmood Kiani attended the ceremony as the chief guest.

The event was also attended by Commissioner Sargodha Division Hafiz Shaukat Ali, King Edward Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof.Dr.Muhammad Ayaz (Sitara-i-Imtiaz), SMC Principal Prof.Dr.Waris Farooq,University of Health Sciences (UHS) Controller of Examinations Dr.Muhammad Abbas,faculty members,parents and students.

According to officials,31 gold medals,23 silver medals and 14 bronze medals were awarded to high-achieving students, while 22 graduates received special certificates in recognition of their academic excellence.

Dr.Muhammad Abbas administered the professional oath to the graduates and urged them to uphold integrity,responsibility and dedication in the service of humanity.

Speaking on the occasion,Prof.Dr.Waris Farooq highlighted the college's academic,research and administrative achievements,saying the institution had rapidly emerged as one of the country's prominent medical education centers and would continue contributing to advancements in medical education and healthcare services.

Addressing the graduates,Prof.Dr.Muhammad Ayaz described medicine as a noble profession rooted in service to humanity.

He encouraged young doctors to pursue lifelong learning,embrace research and innovation and serve patients with compassion and professionalism.

Commissioner Hafiz Shaukat Ali congratulated the graduates and their families,describing the convocation as a significant milestone in the institution's history.

He said medical education played a critical role in social development and public welfare,adding that the Punjab government was taking practical steps to strengthen the health and medical education sectors.

In his address,Dr.Azhar Mahmood Kiani advised the newly qualified doctors to make punctuality,honesty and responsibility the hallmarks of their professional careers.

He urged them to honor their professional oath and contribute to the country's development through excellence in modern medical sciences and research.

Highlighting ongoing healthcare initiatives,Dr.Kiani said the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology in Sargodha would become operational next month.

He added that recruitment at the facility was being conducted strictly on merit and expressed confidence that the institute would emerge as one of the country's leading cardiology centers.
