2 suspects held after shootout with police; stolen bike, weapons recovered

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Feb, 2026) Two motorcycle-riding suspects were arrested, including one injured, after they opened fire on a police team in the New Town area late on Thursday night, a Rawalpindi Police spokesman said on Friday. A stolen motorcycle and weapons were recovered from their possession.

According to the spokesman, the suspects resorted to firing when signalled to stop. The personnel returned fire in self-defence and succeeded in apprehending the two. One of the suspects sustained injuries during the exchange of fire and was shifted to hospital for treatment.

The injured suspect was identified as Shehzad and the other as Naushab. Senior police officers reached the scene along with additional personnel upon receiving information about the incident.

The spokesman said Shehzad had been wanted by the police for involvement in attempted murder and theft cases, including vehicle lifting. Initial investigation revealed that the motorcycle used by the suspects had been stolen last month from the limits of New Town Police Station.

City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani commended Superintendent of Police Rawal, SDPO New Town and the police team concerned for bravely confronting the suspects despite firing and for arresting the wanted accused and recovering the stolen motorcycle and weapons.
