2,800 cops deployed for 8th Muharram security

FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jun, 2026) The police have issued a comprehensive security plan for 8th Muharram-ul-Haram by deploying more than 2,800 police officers and personnel across the district to ensure peace and security during religious gatherings and mourning processions.

Police spokesperson Tariq Jatt said on Tuesday that on the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Tanveer Hussain, the security arrangements for 8th Muharram have been finalized, under which strict monitoring and layered security measures would be implemented across the district. He said that total 165 religious gatherings (majalis) and 63 mourning processions would be held in different parts of the district. In the Lyalpur Division, 19 majalis and four processions would take place while in Iqbal Division 43 majalis and 16 processions are scheduled.

Similarly, Madina Town Division would host 24 majalis and 13 processions, Jaranwala Division 47 majalis and 21 processions and Sadar Division 31 majalis and 9 mourning processions, he added.

He said that more than 2,800 police officers and personnel including DSPs, inspectors, sub inspectors, assistant sub inspectors, head constables, constables and lady constables would perform security duties. He said that under the security plan, snipers would be deployed at major security points, along procession routes, Imam Bargahs, rooftops of sensitive buildings and pickets to ensure foolproof security. Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras would be used for continuous monitoring of processions routes, majalis and sensitive locations to ensure real-time surveillance and response, he added. He said that strict checking of all participants would be carried out before allowing entry into majalis and processions venues.

All available resources are being utilized to ensure safety of the mourners in addition to maintain peaceful environment throughout the observance of Muharram-ul-Haram, he added.
