The wedding venue in Mallah Tola, Chausa Nagar Panchayat, buzzes with joy around 11:00 PM. Aarti Kumari stands on stage beside the groom, Avinash. They exchange garlands.

A man climbs up suddenly. He fires one shot point-blank into Aarti’s abdomen, near her navel. Loud music hides the sound at first. Aarti collapses. Panic spreads fast. Guests scream and run in a stampede-like rush.

The family members take Aarti to Sadar Hospital in Buxar immediately. The critical wound is viewed by doctors. They send her to the Trauma Centre of Varanasi to receive more specialised treatment.

According to Buxar SP Shubham Arya, Aarti has undergone surgery, as of February 26, 2026. She has now been in a stable situation under intensive care.

Police identify the suspect as neighbour Deenbandhu. He nursed one-sided affection for Aarti for two years. Family says he harassed them and even got a prior marriage proposal cancelled. He holds a prior record in liquor smuggling.

Deenbandhu flees the scene. He stays absconding. Officers detain his parents for questioning. Raids continue across the area to catch him.
