RAWALPINDI: The military’s media affairs wing said on Saturday that eight terrorists were killed in two “high-tempo” intelligence operations in Balochistan’s Kharan and Mastung districts.
Meanwhile, security forces killed at least seven terrorists in an operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu, security sources said.
In a statement, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the “intelligence-driven” operations were conducted in Balochistan on June 25 and 26 as part of the counter terrorism campaign aimed at eliminating Fitna al Hindustan.
The state has designated Balochistan-based terrorist groups as Fitna al Hindustan to highlight India’s alleged role in terrorism and destabilisation across Pakistan.
Four bodies found inside ambulance in Bannu
The statement said that on June 25, the movement of a group of terrorists was picked up by security forces in Kharan district.
It added that three terrorists belonging to Indian proxy Fitna al Hindustan were eliminated, while several were injured.
It said that on June 26, a pre-emptive intelligence-based operation was conducted in Mastung district against the “possible presence of a suicide bomber”.
During the operation, troops engaged the terrorist location and after a fire exchange, five terrorists, including a suicide bomber, were successfully neutralised, ISPR said. “Weapons, ammunition, improvised explosive devices and motorbikes used by these terrorists were also recovered,” it said.
Seven terrorists killed
In the meantime, security forces killed at least seven terrorists in an operation in Bannu on Friday, security sources said.
They stated that their forces carried out a successful operation in the Ghora Baka Khel area of Baka Khel tehsil, targeting a suspected vehicle reportedly loaded with weapons and explosive materials.
According to the sources, forces received credible information about the suspicious movement of terrorists. Acting on the intelligence, they targeted the suspected vehicle, parked near a government school, using a quadcopter.
The vehicle was carrying a heavy cache of weapons, including a 12.7-millimetre machine gun, RPGs, and mortar shells. The explosion destroyed the vehicle, and initial reports suggest that all “seven to eight” terrorists inside the vehicle were killed on the spot, the security sources added.
Four bodies found
Separately, four bodies bearing bullet wounds were found inside an ambulance in Bannu on Friday.
Police sources told Dawn that the ambulance was found at the CPEC Circular Road and initial investigation showed that the four middle-aged men were killed after unidentified attackers opened fire on the ambulance. Officials estimate that the attack was carried out on Thursday night.
The bodies were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
“The motive behind the attack is yet to be determined and further investigation is under way,” one of the officials said.
