A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said the Emergency Command and Control Centre Lahore received an emergency call, reporting that the roof of a house had collapsed and several people were trapped beneath the debris.

Rescue teams reached the site within minutes and found that the roof, constructed with T-irons and girders, had caved in, trapping several children and a woman underneath.

Rescuers immediately launched a search and rescue operation and pulled 19 people, including a 30-year-old woman and several children, from the rubble in critical condition.

The victims were administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before being shifted to nearby hospitals.

Hospital sources later confirmed that 14 of the injured had succumbed to their injuries. The deceased included 13 children, among them seven girls. Twelve of the deceased children were between five and nine years of age, while two girls were aged 11 and 16 years. The injured included a 30-year-old female teacher.

The search and rescue operation was led by District Emergency Officer Rizwan Ahmed Chaudhry and was completed within an hour, the spokesperson added.
