1,500 police personnel deployed for security on 1st Muharram

The police have finalized a comprehensive and foolproof security plan for the night of 1st Muharram-ul-Haram by deploying more than 1,500 police officers and personnel to safeguard 36 religious gatherings and six mourning processions across the district

FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Jun, 2026) The police have finalized a comprehensive and foolproof security plan for the night of 1st Muharram-ul-Haram by deploying more than 1,500 police officers and personnel to safeguard 36 religious gatherings and six mourning processions across the district.

Police spokesperson Tariq Jutt said here on Monday that elaborate security arrangements have been completed to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram and maintain law & order throughout the district. He said that security has been enhanced for 36 Majalis and six mourning processions scheduled to be held on the night of 1st Muharram-ul-Haram. More than 1,500 police officers and jawans would perform security duties at various locations to ensure safety of the participants and prevent any untoward incident, he added. He said that special security cordons would be established around all Majalis, mourning processions, Imambargahs and other sensitive locations.

The police authorities have placed Lyallpur, Iqbal, Madina, Jaranwala and Saddar divisions on high alert and directed all field officers to remain vigilant throughout the religious activities, he added. He said that a dedicated security force comprising DSPs, inspectors, sub inspectors, assistant sub inspectors, head constables, constables and women police personnel has been deployed to perform duties at key venues and routes.

Special pickets and checkpoints have also been erected along procession routes, at Imambargahs, entry & exit points and other vulnerable locations to monitor movement and strengthen security screening procedures, he added.

He said that additional police personnel have been deployed at Dhobi Ghat Ground and other important sites where large gatherings are expected. The law enforcement agencies are maintaining close surveillance of all activities to ensure a peaceful environment, he added.

He said that the police would utilize CCTV cameras, control room surveillance systems and modern technology to keep a constant watch on the security situation. Real-time monitoring would enable a quick response to any emerging situation, he added.

He said that Elite Force, Dolphin Force and regular patrolling teams would conduct continuous patrols in Eight Bazaars area and on major roads and highways to deter criminal activity.

The police authorities have also kept reserve contingents and additional force on standby at Police Lines to respond immediately to any emergency. These reserve units could be deployed at short notice if required, he added.
