SUKKUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Jun, 2026) The district administration of Sukkur has decided to implement foolproof security measures and ensure the maintenance of law and order during Muharram-ul-Haram, while taking strict legal action against anyone attempting to create unrest or spread sectarian hatred.
According to handout, issued here on Tuesday, the decision was made during an important meeting of the District Peace Committee held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Sukkur, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Nadir Shehzad Khan.
The meeting was attended by SSP Sukkur Azhar Mughal, Rangers Wing Commander Colonel Atif Khattak, Assistant Commissioners, religious scholars representing Shia, Sunni, Deobandi and Barelvi schools of thought, members of the District Peace Committee, officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and senior officers of other relevant institutions.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Nadir Shehzad Khan said that Muharram-ul-Haram is a sacred month of great religious significance and requires special administrative arrangements. He said that lessons learned from issues encountered last year would help formulate a comprehensive strategy to prevent any untoward incidents this year.
He emphasized that the full cooperation of all stakeholders, including religious leaders, procession permit holders, scholars from different schools of thought and members of the peace committee, was essential for maintaining harmony and public order.
The Deputy Commissioner warned that strict legal action would be taken against any individual involved in disrupting peace, inciting sectarian tensions, or sharing unethical, illegal, or blasphemous content on social media. He added that all available legal provisions, including the Fourth schedule where applicable, would be enforced without exception.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He also announced that the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office would remain open around the clock for members of the Peace Committee to facilitate communication and address any concerns promptly.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Sukkur Azhar Mughal stressed the need for the District Peace Committee to play a more active role in maintaining peace. He noted that recent incidents had created certain challenges, making it imperative to strengthen public confidence in law enforcement and administrative institutions.
He said that the prevailing national and international situation placed additional responsibilities on security agencies and urged religious leaders, procession organizers, office-bearers of religious organizations, permit holders and caretakers of Imambargahs to extend maximum cooperation to the district administration, police and Rangers in thwarting any attempts to disturb peace.
Rangers Wing Commander Colonel Atif Khattak assured participants that comprehensive security arrangements would be put in place and that Rangers would perform their duties in accordance with the approved security plan. He stated that special attention would be given to the routes of mourning processions and called upon Peace Committee members to remain present alongside administrative officials during processions to help resolve issues in a timely manner.
He reiterated that no compromise would be made on maintaining law and order and that all assigned responsibilities would be fulfilled effectively.
At the conclusion of the meeting, religious scholars representing Shia, Sunni, Deobandi and Barelvi communities, as well as minority leaders, assured the district administration of their full cooperation during Muharram-ul-Haram and beyond, pledging to work collectively for the promotion of peace, harmony and stability across the district.
