Six held for defrauding citizens by posing as bank officials

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Jun, 2026) The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Lahore arrested six members of an organised online financial fraud gang involved in deceiving citizens through fraudulent banking calls during a major crackdown in Jhang.

According to the spokesman, the accused were identified as Muhammad Irfan, Arsalan, Tasadaq Abbas, Naeem Shahid, Zeeshan and Hussnain. Cases had been registered against them under various provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 and the Pakistan Penal Code.

Investigations revealed that the suspects used to impersonate bank managers, customer service officers and other banking representatives through phone calls. They allegedly obtained sensitive banking information, ATM card details and One-Time Passwords (OTPs) from victims and subsequently withdrew money from their accounts.

The spokesman said the gang had caused financial losses to several citizens through the fraudulent scheme.

During the raids, NCCIA officials recovered six mobile phones, 16 debit cards and eight active SIM cards from

the accused.

The seized items have been taken into custody for forensic examination.

The investigation further disclosed that certain facilitators linked to the network were involved in withdrawing fraudulently obtained funds and providing logistical support to the suspects.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab NCCIA Director Muhammad Ali Wasim said indiscriminate action against cybercriminals involved in looting the hard-earned savings of citizens would continue.

He urged the public not to share banking information or OTPs with unknown callers and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
