ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Jun, 2026) Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira stated that the Gilgit-Baltistan elections were held peacefully and transparently, asserting that the PPP's majority position entitles it to form the next government, while the second-largest political party should sit in opposition and play its democratic role.

While speaking to a private news channel, PPP Kaira said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has acknowledged the PPP’s majority in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, while noting that the electoral process is still ongoing in some

constituencies where re-polling is being conducted.

He stated that once the remaining polling and related procedures are completed, the final picture of the electoral outcome will emerge in accordance with the mandate given by the people.

Kaira expressed confidence that the PPP would emerge as the leading political force and would be in a position to form the government in Gilgit-Baltistan, reflecting its electoral strength and public support.

He further said that the party remains committed to serving the people as promised during its election campaign, adding that since the era of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the PPP has consistently focused on public service and the welfare of the common man.

While responding to a question regarding political alliances, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said that past experience in Azad Jammu and Kashmir regarding coalition politics was not very encouraging.

He stated that this time, the PPP, having secured a majority would be in a position to form the government in Gilgit-Baltistan in accordance with the public mandate and democratic norms.

He added that the party securing the second position would play its due and constructive role in the opposition, in line with parliamentary traditions and respect for the people’s vote.

Kaira further said that all political parties should uphold democratic values, respect the public mandate and remain accountable to the people through their performance in governance.
