According to the advisory issued by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) at NIH, Pakistan has been experiencing increasingly severe climate changes due to global warming, including frequent and intense heatwaves.

The advisory noted that the vulnerability and impact of heatwaves are increasing each year, leading to a higher risk of illness and deaths caused by heatstroke.

The NIH emphasized the need for immediate measures to strengthen preparedness and response mechanisms for the prevention and control of heat-related illnesses.

It highlighted that avoiding direct exposure to sunlight and maintaining adequate hydration are key steps in preventing heatstroke complications.

The advisory also urged the public to consume sufficient fluids and salty foods, wear hats, and choose light-coloured, lightweight, and loose-fitting clothing during hot and humid weather conditions.

Health authorities have been advised to enhance awareness and preparedness efforts to minimize the health impacts of extreme heat.
