RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Jun, 2026) The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi has stepped up efforts to improve the city's drainage system and prevent urban flooding ahead of the monsoon season by accelerating de-silting and cleaning operations across the district.

According to WASA spokesman, the cleaning of major and minor drains, sewer lines and Nullah Lai is underway to ensure the uninterrupted flow of rainwater during the upcoming rainy season.

The agency was using heavy machinery to remove garbage, silt and other obstructions from Nullah Lai, while cleaning operations in smaller drains, stormwater channels, and sewerage lines were also being carried out in various parts of the city.

He said the measures were aimed at preventing water accumulation in low-lying areas and ensuring efficient drainage during periods of heavy rainfall.

The agency has placed its field staff on high alert to ensure a prompt response and immediate drainage of rainwater during downpours, he added.

WASA Rawalpindi appealed to citizens not to dispose of garbage, construction debris or plastic bags into drains and sewer lines, stressing that public cooperation was essential for maintaining an effective drainage system and avoiding emergency situations during the monsoon season.
