Tensions escalated in Mirpurkhas on Monday as the Journalist Action Committee organized a protest against what it described as the formation of a controversial and one-sided Information Accreditation Card Committee by the Information Department

MIRPURKHAS, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Jun, 2026) Tensions escalated in Mirpurkhas on Monday as the Journalist Action Committee organized a protest against what it described as the formation of a controversial and one-sided Information Accreditation Card Committee by the Information Department. Demonstrators accused the department of discriminating against several media professionals by rejecting their accreditation card applications on what they termed unjust and biased grounds.

A large number of journalists gathered outside the office of the Director Information Mirpurkhas, demanding the immediate dissolution of the existing committee and calling for the removal of both the Director Information Mirpurkhas and the Director General Information. Protesters alleged that references to court orders were being used to defend disputed decisions, a practice they said had undermined confidence in the accreditation process and created resentment within the journalistic community.

Speaking on the occasion, participants argued that the current approach of the Information Department was deepening divisions among media practitioners and negatively impacting relations between the Government of Sindh and journalists.

They urged Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Information Secretary Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon, and other relevant authorities to intervene and establish a transparent, representative, and impartial accreditation committee in consultation with all journalist organizations operating in the district.

The protesters further demanded the issuance of accreditation cards to all eligible journalists affiliated with registered newspapers, television channels, and news agencies without discrimination. Representatives of several media bodies, including Sindh Sahafi Sangat, National Press Club, Aiwan-e-Sahafat, Azad Media Group, and Awami Press Club, participated in the demonstration, calling for immediate steps to address journalists’ concerns and restore confidence in the accreditation system.
