PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Jun, 2026) Employees of the Capital Metropolitan Government and various Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) staged a protest here on Tuesday against the non-payment of salaries and pensions.
The protesters marched from the City Office to Bacha Khan Chowk where they blocked a major road and burned tires, causing significant traffic disruptions. Long queues of vehicles formed on the affected routes, while the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service was also impacted, leaving buses and commuters stranded in traffic.
The employees said they had not received their salaries and pensions for May 2026, resulting in severe financial difficulties. Protesters stated that they were forced to spend Eid-ul-Adha without salaries or pension payments, making it difficult to meet household expenses.
Retired employees also expressed concern over the continued delay in pension disbursements.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The protesters claimed that several meetings with the provincial Minister for Local Government had failed to produce any practical progress regarding the release of pending payments. According to them, authorities had repeatedly assured them that the issue would be resolved, but no payments have yet been made.
During the demonstration, employees warned that they would expand their protest and block more key roads if salaries and pensions were not released immediately. They urged the provincial government to take emergency measures to address their concerns.
The protest was temporarily postponed until Wednesday after the Director General reportedly assured the demonstrators that efforts were being made to release the pending salaries.
