Kohat tightens Muharram security as police recover stolen motorcycle, crack down on crime

KOHAT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Jun, 2026) District Police Officer (DPO) Kohat, Shahbaz Elahi on Monday chaired a key consultative meeting with traders, market association leaders, religious scholars, and senior police officials to finalize arrangements for the peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram. Stressing that peace and communal harmony are a shared responsibility, he said Kohat has a longstanding tradition of tolerance and brotherhood and expressed confidence that the holy month would pass in an atmosphere of unity and mutual respect.

The DPO briefed participants on the district’s comprehensive security strategy, stating that foolproof arrangements had been put in place for Muharram processions and majalis. He noted that additional police personnel would be deployed at sensitive locations while surveillance and monitoring systems had been further strengthened to ensure public safety. Representatives of the trader community and ulema assured the police of their full cooperation in maintaining law and order and promoting interfaith harmony.

In a separate operation, Kohat police successfully recovered a stolen Honda 125 motorcycle and arrested three suspects during a targeted raid. Acting on the special directives of DPO Shahbaz Elahi, a team led by SHO Abdul Rauf Bangash of MRS Police Station utilized modern investigative techniques and intelligence-based information to apprehend the accused—Aqil Mir, Fazal Mir, and Simran, all residents of Hangu. The motorcycle, stolen from citizen Bakhtawar Shah, was recovered, while the suspects were taken into custody for further interrogation.

Meanwhile, on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kohat, Assistant Commissioner (HQ) Naveed Ahmad visited the Joint Check Post to inspect measures aimed at curbing smuggling and protecting forest resources. During the visit, he reviewed enforcement actions against the illegal transportation of goods and forest produce, emphasizing strict vigilance and effective monitoring to safeguard public interests and preserve valuable natural resources.
