Kohat police, Shia leaders unite for peaceful Muharram; DPO reviews comprehensive security plan

KOHAT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Jun, 2026) As part of efforts to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram, Kohat District Police Officer (DPO) Shahbaz Elahi on Monday chaired a high-level consultative meeting with Shia organizers, community elders, and religious leaders to review security arrangements, promote inter-sect harmony, and strengthen coordination mechanisms for the sacred month.

The meeting was attended by retired Chief Justice Ibn Ali, SP City Iftikhar Khan, DSPs, SHOs, and other senior police officials. Participants held detailed discussions on security measures for processions and majalis, traffic management plans, and strategies for effective communication and coordination during Muharram. The session focused on addressing potential challenges and ensuring smooth implementation of security protocols.

Addressing the gathering, DPO Shahbaz Elahi reaffirmed the police department’s commitment to utilizing all available resources to protect lives and property and maintain law and order throughout Muharram.

He stressed that fostering religious tolerance, brotherhood, and unity is a collective responsibility, adding that close cooperation between police and the community would help thwart any attempts by anti-social elements to disturb the peaceful environment of the district.

Community elders and Shia organizers appreciated the proactive measures adopted by Kohat Police and assured their full cooperation in maintaining peace and harmony. The meeting concluded with a unanimous commitment to strengthen communication channels, enhance security arrangements, and maintain continuous coordination with the district administration and law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe, orderly, and peaceful Muharram.
